There is but one place where the work and things we do, the discipline we put in, the words we speak, the thoughts we think and the energy we channel into it will have an immense effect of what our lives will come to look like. In this place, we can all be like the blacksmith who forges his metal into perfect form that will serve many later on, or we can be like the drunk who constantly tries to escape this place and himself by looking to the bottle.
The place I’m referring to is the NOW, the point between what has been and what is to come. It is here everything happens all the time, and where we need to stay hungry so we will always show up and do our best.
The chattering critic inside our heads can (and often has) stop us from moving forward and making true progress in life. Even though his voice may be LOUD, this little critic is but afraid and thinks that the louder he screams the less fear he will face. Granted, listening to him for too long will make one face less risky moments that involve fear, but at the same time, following his advice is to live a life in constant fear of pretty much everything else. Needless to say, that is no way to live.
This guy can stop even the best of us, and it is he who will gladly explain why something won’t work, why we are not capable, and that we better listen to him or else we will be sorry.
The truth, however, is that this guy is wrong and he needs to go.
Self-control is strength. Self-control is immense power and is the ultimate expression of freedom. Not before we can control ourselves can we be truly free. Temptation, peer pressure, limiting thoughts, lack of will, faith and confidence are things that can destroy a person and keep him bogged down in a life of endless suffering. Not until he will rise by the power of self-control can he set himself free.
Self-control takes training, practice and a monstrous amount of determination, but whatever it takes we shall know that it can be done…
It is 5:30 AM Saturday morning, and while I could have easily spent the next few hour in bed sleeping, I am just not that person, at least not anymore. I use to be the guy who often stayed up late and then got as much sleep as he possibly could squeeze out of the day. However, since the day I started waking up early on purpose, which was now a couple of years ago, I have realized that this habit alone has taken me way further than any other habits to date.
It is not about conquering the alarm clock, and it is not about getting up early for the sake of getting up. No, but it is about rising out of bed, to the occasion, and bathing in all the creativity and super-productivity that every morning has to offer. When we do we take a giant leap forward towards success in life. This is the time when we strengthen ourselves, and can then use that strength to further one’s purpose throughout the day.
This is by far one of the best habits that people can create for themselves, and personally I swear by it. With that said, let us hear the rooster’s wake up call (an alarm clock is fine too), and get ourselves out of bed to see what this thing is all about.
“Reality leaves a lot to the imagination.” – John Lennon
